\nThanks for clearing that up. Definitely a weird (uncommon weird) rule but I can see how it would be useful at Championship type meets.","date_added":"May 7th 2013, 5:19am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":139655,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-4047.jpg","pb_title":"Nelly","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=4047","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/Nelly.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"3240"},"771374":{"pb_id":"73","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"771374","comment_id":"771374","member_id":"73","comment":"Looks like the athlete from Texas Tech, Ezekiel Kissorio was entered in the 1500, 5k, and the 3k Steeple. He ran the steeple at 4:35 on Sunday and got his 5 team points. Then with the 1500 being run 1\/2 an hour later, I bet he either didn't run up to his capability and was resting for the 5k which was at 7:35 or he possibly just dropped out, which would make him disqualified for any event after that point.","date_added":"May 7th 2013, 4:47am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"28","email_settings":"255","email":"land_shane@yahoo.com","address":"shane","gender":"m","member_id":"73","member_name":"Shane","avatar_location":"av-73.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-73.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":139655,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-73.jpg","pb_title":"Shane","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=73","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/shane.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"28"},"771371":{"pb_id":"73","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"771371","comment_id":"771371","member_id":"73","comment":"

\nHere is what the NCAA has to say about the matter:
\n
\n
\nAs with Failure to Participate, there is no requirement that the Referee wait for a complaint or protest before determining the existence of a Honest Effort violation. Many Championship Committees are proactive upon witnessing a performance that appears to not be the best competitive ability, and initiate an investigation. However, it is more common for a report of this violation to come to the Referee than in the form of a protest. The responsibility of the Referee is to determine if just cause exists for the apparent lack of best ability. If declared, a competitor must not only 'participate' but must also 'compete', Rule 4-2. The determination may include any evidence relevant to making a decision, such as medical information or competitor actions.<\/div><\/div>

\nI think I have only seen this enforced during a Championship type meet where team scores matter.","date_added":"May 7th 2013, 4:34am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"28","email_settings":"255","email":"land_shane@yahoo.com","address":"shane","gender":"m","member_id":"73","member_name":"Shane","avatar_location":"av-73.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-73.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":139655,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-73.jpg","pb_title":"Shane","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=73","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/shane.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"28"},"771055":{"pb_id":"4047","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"771055","comment_id":"771055","member_id":"4047","comment":"In the men's 1500 there were two runners that got DQ and it says "Honest Effort" can someone help me out with what that rule is?
